Bristol Fairy Sets are created for the gorgeous little "Bristol Fairy Neckerchief", designed by Jo, from @twinsetandpurl for @the_big_flock_bristol 2026.
The design is pictured here, and the pattern can be found at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bristol-fairy-neckerchief
Here, we have a number of sets for this lovely design; the pattern uses
*1 skein of our Merino - Mohair 4ply singles,
*1 skein of our 20g Cloud, ‘mini fluffers’ Suri alpaca - silk laceweight yarn
and
*1 skein of 20g 4ply merino - nylon tonal yarn
The original 2 sample neckerchiefs were:
*Barricane MC, Cove 20g cloud, Beeswax 20g
and
*Latte MC, Tamarisk 20g cloud, That Touch Of Mink 20g
We also have created lots of other sets, giving different colour options, which join the two originals
The main skein is on our Superwash Extra Fine Merino Superkid Mohair
Hand dyed yarn
360m, 100g
56% super-wash extra fine merino
44% superkid mohair
Our suppliers describe this lovely base:
"This singles yarn is next to skin soft, slightly fuzzy and has a beautiful pearly lustre due to the fineness of the mohair used. The mohair is not brushed but the singles construction allows the mohair fibres to bloom and form a delicate halo around the strand. It knits up into warm and lightweight items. Although technically a fingering weight yarn, you can also treat it like a thicker sport weight yarn, and knit on larger needles. This allows the mohair fibres more room to bloom and reach their full fuzzy potential. It is delightful worked up into lightweight shawls, cardigans, hats and cowls.
This yarn is extremely soft because of the extrafine merino and superkid mohair we use. The softness of mohair is the main determining factor of its quality. Superkid mohair is from the first shearing and these are the softest and finest fibres the mohair goats will ever produce. The second shearing is usually called kid mohair and is still of fine quality, but is not as soft as superkid mohair.
The main factor determining the quality of merino wool is also its softness which depends upon the fineness of the fibres. We use extrafine merino (19.5 microns) which is some of the finest commercially available for hand dyers.
Recommended Needle Size: 2.5 - 4mm needles
Gauge (stocking stitch): 28sts x 36 rows over 10cm/4 inches
on 3.25mm (US 3) needles"
The accent 'mini fluffers', which create the flower motif are Suri Alpaca / Silk, laceweight yarn: 20g, 74% brushed Baby Suri Alpaca, 26% Mulberry Silk, 120 metres per 20g hank (equivalent to 600m per 100g)
The accent 4ply minis are Merino / Nylon 75/25, 20g, 85m.
Some sets are available on pre-order, when stock is low; these will be dyed and sent within 2 working weeks.
Hand-dyed using professional acid dyes; no two skeins are completely identical due to the nature of this process, though they are dyed in batches.
Every attempt has been made to wash any residual dye from the yarn, however a little may remain; especially with dark or vivid colours, so I recommend to hand wash separately. Reshape made products whilst damp and dry flat.
All our yarn is hand-washed with moisturising, dermatologically-tested hand wash.
Colours may vary between viewing monitors; every effort has been made to represent a true reflection of the yarn.
